How To Apply

Applications are welcomed from those who have lived in Newbury for at least 5 years immediately prior to their application. There is no age limit for applicants, but most residents are nearing or over retirement age.

The charity keeps a list of interested applicants, who are assessed by the trustees. This list is reviewed regularly and priority will be given to those most in need at the time a property becomes available, not necessarily in order of application.

Housing Benefit - residents are often entitled to housing benefit.
To check, contact West Berkshire Council on 01635 519530.

The Neighbourhood

The Newtown Road almshouses are a short walk from the town centre. Most of Newbury’s accommodation for independent older people is in this area - either other almshouses or sheltered homes provided by housing associations.

Harvest Green overlooks the playing fields of St Bartholomew’s School, and is secluded from the private family homes nearby. The corner shop is a short walk away, or there is a 15 minute walk to the town centre.
